Base is 100% hand dyed silk

Felted with 100% merino wool roving

Accented with various yarns and fibers

Hand beaded detailing

12" wide x 78" long

Hand wash cold, drip dry. No dryer.

This gorgeous scarf is adorned with dimensional silk flowers accented with hand beading. The scarf is made from silk gauze and dyed merino wool and has a soft, airy feel.

What's unique about this scarf is that the flowers are dimensional, crafted from dyed silk, using a background accented with a variety of fibers. A lot of intentional composition combined with the serendipity of felting make this scarf one of a kind! I've hand dyed the silk red...the perfect background to complement the wool in several shades of reds. I've also worked in yarns, dyed silk fibers, cotton scrim, and tencel roving for lots of texture and a little shine. Each of the flowers has a hand-beaded center for a touch of glimmer. The photos try to capture the mix of materials, but it's impossible to do justice to the details...it's even more fascinating in real life! The fibers and silk work together to create soft puckering, which to me is one of the most intriguing things about nuno felting.

The edges have an organic waviness, and the ends are fringed in the art yarn and merino wool. The scarf measures 12" wide and is 68" long to the end of the silk and 78" to the end of the fringe. This generous length makes it versatile and easy to wrap around at least twice. Merino wool is very soft and not itchy against the skin, making it comfortable to wear.

I created this scarf in my Lancaster, PA studio. Nuno felting is the process of manipulating wool roving through fabric using soapy water and lots and lots of rubbing and agitation...and lots and lots of time and patience! Each piece takes several hours to create. I consider each piece "art to wear", and no two are alike.

Shipping:

I offer free shipping on all items and will ship within 2 business days; generally I am able to ship within 24 hours.  Items are shipped USPS Priority or First Class Mail with tracking.

Returns and Exchanges:

I consider each item a unique piece of art crafted with care and attention to detail.  Hopefully you will find your purchase even more beautiful than you imagined!  Please know that felting and fiber art is an unpredictable and organic process which I embrace.   Wavy edges and puckers in a silk scarf, for example, are part of the charm of the piece.  I try to show these characteristics in the photographs so that you can appreciated the unique qualities of the piece of wearable art that you purchase!  However, if your item is not as expected, please contact me within 7 days of receipt to discuss an exchange or return. Buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping to return an item for a refund or exchange.

Refunds:

In the case of a refund, the refund will be issued as soon as I receive the item in its original condition, less the original shipping cost.
