Base is 100% hand dyed silk

Felted with merino wool roving and BFL/silk blend roving

Accented with various yarns and fibers

18" wide x 80" long

Hand wash cold, drip dry, no dryer

This lovely scarf is created from a base of silk gauze and soft wool roving and has a light, airy feel...perfect year round.

The varigated Blue Face Leicester (a sheep!) wool/silk roving used in this scarf comes from Vermont, where it is hand dyed in small batches to ensure its intense color and maintain its softness. This batch reminds me of crocuses, and I was inspired to use 3 colors of my hand-dyed silk to complement the beautiful wool. I also added in some merino wool in purple and green. The scarf is accented with coordinating art yarns attached with decorative stitching with rayon thread to give just a hint of shine. The photos try to capture the mix of materials, but it's impossible to do justice to the details...it's even more fascinating in real life! The fibers and silk work together to create a softly puckered fabric, which to me is one of the most intriquing things about nuno felting.

The scarf is felted on one side to maintain the lighter weight. The edges have an organic waviness, and the ends are fringed in the merino and art yarns and silk. The scarf measures 18" wide and is 68" long to the end of the silk and 80" long to the end of the fringe. This generous length makes it versatile and easy to wrap around at least twice. Merino and BFL wool is very soft and not itchy against the skin, making it comfortable to wear.

Nuno felting is the process of manipulating wool roving through fabric using soapy water and lots and lots of rubbing and agitation...and lots and lots of time and patience! I create each piece in my Lancaster, Pennsylvania studio. Each piece takes several hours to make, I consider each piece "art to wear"... no two are alike!

Shipping:

I offer free shipping on all items and will ship within 2 business days; generally I am able to ship within 24 hours.  Items are shipped USPS Priority or First Class Mail with tracking.

Returns and Exchanges:

I consider each item a unique piece of art crafted with care and attention to detail.  Hopefully you will find your purchase even more beautiful than you imagined!  Please know that felting and fiber art is an unpredictable and organic process which I embrace.   Wavy edges and puckers in a silk scarf, for example, are part of the charm of the piece.  I try to show these characteristics in the photographs so that you can appreciated the unique qualities of the piece of wearable art that you purchase!  However, if your item is not as expected, please contact me within 7 days of receipt to discuss an exchange or return. Buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping to return an item for a refund or exchange.

Refunds:

In the case of a refund, the refund will be issued as soon as I receive the item in its original condition, less the original shipping cost.
