Details

Base is 100% hand dyed silk

Felted with merino wool roving and BFL/silk blend roving

Accented with various yarns and fibers

Hand stitched detailing

11" wide x 84" long

Spot clean or hand wash cold, drip dry.  No dryer.

This vibrant scarf is made from silk gauze and merino and blue faced leicester (a sheep!) wool and has a soft, cozy feel. Lightweight yet warm.

I created a floral design suggestive of poppies by "painting" with several shades of orange and yellow. I've hand dyed the silk background in a leaf green... a perfect background to allow the flowers to pop! I've also worked in yarns, silk fibers and tencel roving for lots of texture and a little shine. The flowers are accented with handstitching for added dimension. The photos try to capture the mix of materials, but it's impossible to do justice to the details...it's even more fascinating in real life! The fibers and silk work together to create soft puckering, which to me is one of the most intriguing things about nuno felting.

The edges have an organic waviness, and the ends are fringed in the art yarn wool. The scarf measures 11" wide and is 68" long to the end of the silk and 84" to the end of the fringe. This generous length makes it versatile and easy to wrap around at least twice.

The merino wool is from a purveyor in Colorado which sources its wool from Australia, where it is specially processed and dyed to their quality standards. The BFL/silk blend if from Vermont, where it is hand dyed in small batches. Both merino and BFL are very soft and not itchy against the skin, making it comfortable to wear

Nuno felting is the process of manipulating wool roving through fabric using soapy water and lots and lots of rubbing and agitation...and lots and lots of time and patience! I created this scarf in my Lancaster, PA studio. Each piece takes several hours to create, and I consider each scarf "art to wear"...no two are alike!

Shipping:

I offer free shipping on all items and will ship within 2 business days; generally I am able to ship within 24 hours.  Items are shipped USPS Priority or First Class Mail with tracking.

Returns and Exchanges:

I consider each item a unique piece of art crafted with care and attention to detail.  Hopefully you will find your purchase even more beautiful than you imagined!  Please know that felting and fiber art is an unpredictable and organic process which I embrace.   Wavy edges and puckers in a silk scarf, for example, are part of the charm of the piece.  I try to show these characteristics in the photographs so that you can appreciated the unique qualities of the piece of wearable art that you purchase!  However, if your item is not as expected, please contact me within 7 days of receipt to discuss an exchange or return. Buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping to return an item for a refund or exchange.

Refunds:

In the case of a refund, the refund will be issued as soon as I receive the item in its original condition, less the original shipping cost.
